What to Know Before

Booking a Tour in Fairbanks, Alaska

  • What kinds of tours are available in Fairbanks?

Fairbanks offers a wide range of experiences depending on the season. In winter, many visitors come for northern lights tours, while summer brings opportunities for scenic drives, cultural stops, and remote road trips. At Midnight Sky Adventures, we focus on small-group, full-day experiences that go beyond short, stop-and-go sightseeing. Our tours are designed for travelers who want more space, more time, and a deeper understanding of the places they are visiting.

  • What are the best tours in Fairbanks?

There’s truly something for everyone in Fairbanks, and the “best” tour depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for. Some travelers prefer short, activity-based tours, while others are drawn to longer, more immersive journeys. Many visitors come for the aurora in winter, while others seek out scenic, full-day experiences in the summer months. If you prefer a smaller group, a more comfortable pace, and a guide who focuses on the journey and not just the stops, our tours are built around that experience rather than a high-volume, checklist-style itinerary.

  • Are there day tours from Fairbanks?

Yes. There are several day tours from Fairbanks, but many tend to focus on short local attractions or single activities. We offer longer, full-day tours designed for travelers who want to go out beyond the immediate Fairbanks area and experience more remote parts of Interior Alaska without needing to drive themselves. These longer routes allow for a more complete and less rushed experience.

  • Do you offer Denali tours from Fairbanks?

We do not offer tours into Denali National Park itself. However, our summer tour travels along the Denali Highway and into the Alaska Range. This offers a different kind of experience: wide-open landscapes, mountain views, and a quieter, more remote setting. It’s an ideal option for travelers who want dramatic scenery without the complexity of navigating park logistics or driving long distances on their own.

  • Can you do a Denali day trip from Fairbanks?

Fairbanks is often considered a gateway to Denali National Park, but reaching deep into the park within a single day can be challenging and often involves long travel times and limited flexibility.

Our tours offer an alternative approach. While we do not travel into the national park, we follow the historic Denali Highway—the original park road—and explore the surrounding Alaska Range.

The appeal of this experience is the access to expansive, rugged landscapes without the crowds typically found inside the park, all within a realistic and comfortable full-day journey from Fairbanks.

  • Are your Fairbanks tours small group or large group?

All tours are intentionally kept small. Winter tours are limited to 6 guests, and summer tours to 7 guests. This allows for more space, a quieter atmosphere, and the flexibility to adapt throughout the day based on conditions and guest interests.

  • Do you offer aurora borealis tours?

Yes. During the winter season, we offer an Arctic Circle tour that includes the opportunity to view the aurora borealis. This is a natural phenomenon, and sightings can never be guaranteed. However, the extended, full-day format of our tour allows for more flexibility in how and where we position for viewing conditions compared to shorter, stationary experiences.

  • Where do your tours depart from?

All tours depart from the Fairbanks and North Pole area, with pickup available from hotels, Airbnbs, and other accessible, maintained locations. This provides more flexibility and convenience compared to operators who limit pickups to a short list of designated hotels.

  • How far do your tours travel from Fairbanks?

Our tours are full-day experiences that travel well beyond the immediate Fairbanks area.

Depending on the season, routes may include:

    • The Dalton Highway and Arctic Circle region (winter)
    • The Denali Highway and Alaska Range (summer)

These routes are a key part of what makes the experience unique, offering access to remote landscapes that most visitors wouldn’t reach on their own.
